Mark G. Robinson
Chief Investment Officer
Mark is a native Texan and has been an active participant in the investment community since 1995. He made his first investment as a college student and has over 20 years experience as a Registered Investment Advisor. He began his career as an investment research analyst and quickly advanced to a senior portfolio manager position at his prior firm before founding The Watchman Group in 2004.
Mark grew up in Plano and earned a BA in finance and economics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1994. He lives with his wife and two children in Plano, where he serves on various non-profit boards in the community. Mark is an avid golfer and also enjoys traveling, reading, and coaching youth sports. A “people person,” Mark is truly passionate about helping others achieve financial success and security.

Matt has worked in the investment industry for over two decades, serving both individuals and institutions as an independent advisor. He joined The Watchman Group after spending 17 years with True North Advisors, where he managed and built out the firm’s investment platform, served on the management team, and worked directly with individuals and institutions on their investment and planning needs. Prior to True North, Matt worked as an investment analyst for Lockwood Financial, building investment plans and conducting manager due diligence.
In 2015, Matt participated in the Schwab Executive Leadership Program, an elite training program for the next generation of leaders in the RIA industry. He earned a BBA in finance from Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of the men’s basketball team. Matt lives with his wife and daughters in Lucas, TX.

Chris is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with over 25 years of experience in the investment industry. He worked alongside Mark and Debbie at their previous firm for many years and reunited with Mark in 2013 when he joined The Watchman Group. He leads the firm’s financial planning efforts assisting clients directly in the areas of estate, retirement, tax planning, charitable giving, insurance and investment planning.
Chris has held floor trading positions on the Chicago Board Options Exchange, managed a block trading desk for Pershing Brokerage Co. under the title of Senior Trading Representative, and was a stockbroker at Brown & Co. Chris graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a BA in history and received the CFP® designation in 2001. Some of his favorite activities include soccer, tennis, swimming, and biking. Chris lives in McKinney with his wife and son.
Jim Torrey, CPA
Senior Wealth Manager
Jim Torrey joined the Watchman Group at the start of 2019, bringing over his longtime clients from Cornerstone Advisory, a company he owned and managed for more than 30 years. Jim is a CPA and brings decades of experience in wealth management, financial planning, income and estate tax planning and compliance, and retirement planning. He contributes to our investment decision-making process, as well as to the financial planning and tax strategies that are implemented on a firm-wide level.
Jim was born in Dallas, grew up in Odessa and graduated from SMU. He lived in Dallas for many years but since 2001 has made Greensboro his home. Jim is an avid pilot and when not at work can usually be found in his airplane.
Deana B. Webb
Deana has been The Watchman Group’s operations manager since inception of the firm in 2004. In fact, many of her relationships predate the firm from her time spent at the prior CPA practice that Mark worked alongside for many years. She is the heart and soul of our office and our long-time clients know her well. Today, her responsibilities include compliance, client service, reporting and overall office management.
Deana has worked in small business accounting, portfolio management, and operations roles for over 30 years. Originally from Georgia, She moved to Texas in 1988 and now lives in Plano with her husband. Her interests include reading and genealogy research.
Debbie Janssen, CPA
Debbie is a Certified Public Accountant with over 20 years of experience in the accounting industry. She has extensive experience in public accounting, audit, tax, and personal investing. She worked alongside Mark and Chris at their prior firm and runited in 2018 when she joined The Watchman Group. Debbie supports the firm working directly with clients on day to day operational needs and overseas portfolio accounting and reporting. She also plays a key role in assisting our clients with tax planning and strategy.
Debbie graduated from Southwestern University with a BBA in accounting. She received her MBA degree with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas. Debbie lives in Fairview with her husband and two teenage sons. An avid scrapbooker, she has more than one bookcase filled with albums dedicated to her family’s history.
Taylor Herzog, CFA, CAIA
Director of Portfolio Management
Taylor has been deeply entrenched in the wealth management industry for over 14 years. He previously served as an investments and technology solutions analyst at a large RIA in Dallas where he was responsible for investment policy, manager due diligence and portfolio management. Additionally, he built the firm’s integrated software solution of performance reporting, portfolio rebalancing and trading, and customer relationship management systems. Taylor also has experience in risk management at a large regional bank and managed a successful hedge fund for individual investors.
Taylor has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Texas Christian University and is a graduate of the South West Graduate School of Banking Program at Southern Methodist University. Taylor and his wife live in Carrollton, Texas. He is a lifelong computer enthusiast and gamer. He and his wife relax engaging in competitive gaming with friends and family.
